How far does a European Christian need to travel to find a mission field? These days you don?t have to go very far. Not only are Christians a minority in formerly Christian nations, but our countries are becoming more multi-cultural all the time. The nations are in our backyard! In this context, the skills of cross-cultural ministry can be put to good use by any serious Christian. What?s more, when Christians join together in spite of their cultural differences to serve together, our unity in Christ will itself be our witness. These are the goals of Next Step 2009!

This summer Lea and I had the priviledge of serving Alongside Eerek and Pilvi Priesfreund and their boys Andreas and Mattias in Avispea, Estonia. The purpose of our time in Avispea was to begin to express a vision for youth discipleship that has been on our hearts and developing in our minds for the last few years. The goal of the project was to invite Christian youth primarily from the communities surrounding Avispea to join us in the adventure of growing as disciples by learning, serving and leading together as disciples. Our journey together was full of surprises and challenges. But it was a wonderful affirmation that God does extraordinary things through ordinary people who choose to serve together in his name in ordinary ways.
